Ladali Behan Yojana: Will This Women-Focused Scheme Be Promised in Bihar Elections?

The article discusses the potential introduction of the Ladali Behan Yojana in Bihar in light of upcoming elections, emphasizing women's empowerment through various proposed schemes.

  • Ladali Behan Yojana may influence Bihar’s upcoming assembly elections, aiming for women’s empowerment.
  • Opposition RJD promises Rs 2,500 monthly under Mai Bahin Maan Yojana, similar to BJP’s initiatives.
  • BJP’s strategies in various states indicate a potential push for similar schemes in Bihar.

With Bihar’s assembly elections approaching in 2025, political parties are actively seeking ways to engage voters, particularly women. Among the discussions, the Mai Bahin Maan Yojana, proposed by the opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), promises financial support of Rs 2,500 per month to women, echoing the Ladali Behan Yojana that has earned attention in Madhya Pradesh.

The Ladali Behan Yojana launched by the BJP has shown success, not just in Madhya Pradesh, but also in Maharashtra and Delhi, leading to significant victories in those states. The Congress party has similarly adopted the structure of this scheme in Karnataka and Jharkhand with notable success.

Given this context, there are rising questions surrounding whether the BJP will introduce the Ladali Behan Yojana or a similar initiative in Bihar. Responding to these inquiries, BJP leader and former MLC Ranbir Nandan highlighted that decisions regarding welfare schemes are usually made based on political assessment and voter expectations.

He mentioned, “As far as Mahila Samman Yojana-like schemes are concerned, we will collaborate in the coming months to establish collective approaches concerning women’s welfare. Those decisions will shape our campaign ahead of the polls.”

Addressing the ongoing initiatives under CM Nitish Kumar’s administration, Nandan underscored that the government has introduced various programs to empower women in Bihar. Noteworthy achievements include constructing toilets that cater to women’s needs, distributing cycles to girls for education access, and ensuring 50% reservation for women in panchayat elections. These actions are part of a broader vision intended to boost women’s self-reliance.

Nandan added that with support from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, numerous schemes aimed at women’s welfare are being effectively executed in Bihar, marking a transformative step for women’s rights and empowerment in the state.

“In Bihar, CM Nitish Kumar understands the aspirations of women, and we will continue to meet their basic needs and expectations through dedicated programs,” he stated.

This evolving scenario in Bihar has set an intriguing stage for upcoming elections, particularly concerning women’s participation and empowerment initiatives that could define voters’ decisions.
