- Rah-Veer Scheme rewards Good Samaritans with cash awards and certificates for helping road accident victims within the Golden Hour.

- District and state committees manage verification, award distribution, and keep an eye on the scheme’s proper implementation.
On April 21, 2025, the Central Government launched the Rah-Veer Scheme to honour Good Samaritans who save road accident victims. This scheme gives cash awards and certificates to everyday people who step up and help victims during the critical Golden Hour, greatly boosting road safety efforts across India.
Who Can Be a Rah-Veer?
The Rah-Veer Scheme recognises people who quickly help victims of serious motor vehicle accidents, especially those who make sure victims get medical care within the vital Golden Hour. If you provide immediate aid or arrange quick and responsible transportation to the hospital, you can be recognised as a Rah-Veer.
How to Qualify for Cash Awards and Certificates
To get a cash award of ₹5,000 and a certificate, your help must directly contribute to saving a victim’s life or lowering the severity of injuries by getting them to the hospital within the Golden Hour — usually the first hour after the accident when medical help is most important.
If you help several victims from the same accident, you can receive up to ₹25,000 for that incident. Each brave and kind act makes you eligible for these cash awards, along with official certificates to recognise your effort.
How National Awards Are Given to Outstanding Rah-Veers
Every year, the top 10 exceptional contributors from across India who have shown great bravery and selfless service receive national awards worth ₹1 lakh each. These awards encourage citizens to be active heroes in improving road safety and saving lives.
Legal Protection for Good Samaritans
The Rah-Veer Scheme offers strong legal protections for all Good Samaritans under the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019 and the 2020 rules. You are protected from harassment, police questioning, or legal action without your clear consent.
If your rights as a helper are violated, complaint committees at the district level will quickly resolve your issues to keep you protected throughout.

The Process for Verification and Receiving Awards
Your claim for the award goes through a careful verification by a district committee led by the District Magistrate. Once verified, the cash award and certificate are approved and sent directly to your bank account, usually within a week.
The Role of State and District Committees in Monitoring the Scheme
State and district committees play a key role in keeping track of the Rah-Veer Scheme’s timely and fair implementation. They hold regular quarterly reviews to make sure awards are given out fairly and that awareness about Good Samaritan protections spreads across the area.
A strong and caring response from citizens can greatly lower deaths caused by road accidents. With Rah-Veer, your bravery, kindness, and quick action get the recognition and support they deserve.
