Key Projects Improving Water Supply
Water management is a key part of SJMMSVY. Over the last 10 years, 10 major water supply projects have been started by the Gujarat Urban Development Company (GUDC) in 8 cities, with a total cost of Rs 216.8 crore. Of these, 9 have been finished at a cost of Rs 212.95 crore, while work on the Tarsadi Part-3 project is still going on with Rs 3.85 crore spent. These projects give many people regular, steady access to clean water, greatly improving daily life in smaller towns like Vijalpore, Dahod, Patan, and Surendranagar.
Sewage Treatment and Underground Sewerage Developments
Sanitation infrastructure is growing fast with the building and expansion of sewage treatment plants (STPs) and underground sewerage systems. GUDC has started 16 STPs in smaller towns, spending a total of Rs 283.80 crore. Two of these projects in Mehsana and Vadnagar are finished, worth Rs 58.74 crore, with the other 14 in progress in towns including Kathlal, Savarkundla, and Modasa with Rs 225.06 crore budgeted.
The underground sewerage systems built by GUDC play a key role in better hygiene and public health. With Rs 2,255.29 crore spent on finished projects, important cities such as Anand, Bharuch, Palanpur, Nadiad, and Gandhidham now have modern sanitation systems. Plus, sewerage projects worth Rs 1,100.83 crore are underway in 49 cities, helping sustainable urban sanitation growth.
Role of Gujarat Urban Development Company (GUDC) in Small Town Development
GUDC is central to carrying out SJMMSVY projects focused on smaller urban areas. Over the last decade, it has worked on solving wastewater problems, building sewage treatment plants, improving water supply schemes, and managing underground drainage networks. This focused approach fixes key infrastructure gaps, raising living standards and public health in these growing towns.
Financial Investment and Impact on Ease of Living
Nearly Rs 4,000 crore invested through SJMMSVY shows Gujarat’s promise to steady urban infrastructure improvements. Of this, Rs 2,526.98 crore worth of projects are finished, visibly improving water supply and sanitation in many towns. Current investments of Rs 1,398.19 crore continue to improve urban areas and public health facilities. These updates make life healthier, cleaner, and more comfortable for people, supporting Gujarat’s goal of making every city and town a better place to live.
