Good news has arrived for employees of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC). The state government has declared a significant 2.5% increase in the dearness allowance (DA) for these employees. This announcement was made by Minister Ponnam Prabhakar as part of the government’s commitment to fulfilling its election promises and enhancing the welfare of its employees.
Details of the DA Increase
This increase will result in an additional burden of around ₹3.6 crore each month on the state’s finances. Approximately 40,000 employees of TGSRTC will experience the benefits of this DA increase, which is expected to improve their economic conditions significantly.
“This increase not only rewards the hard work of our employees but also aims to strengthen public transport services,” said Minister Ponnam Prabhakar during the announcement. The government recognizes the valuable contributions of these employees in maintaining efficient transport services.
Additional Government Initiatives
In addition to the DA hike, the Telangana government is launching the Indira Mahila Shakti Scheme in celebration of International Women’s Day. This initiative will commence with the operation of 150 rented buses run by the Mandal Mahila Samakhya Sangam, with plans to eventually expand this fleet to 600 buses. This scheme is particularly focused on empowering women and ensuring their mobility within the state.
Moreover, the Mahalakshmi scheme, which enables over 150 crore women in Telangana to travel free on RTC buses, continues to be a success. The state estimates that the total expenses for these free journeys amount to roughly ₹5 thousand crore.
As part of ongoing enhancements to public transportation, the government is also considering introducing more electric buses and upgrading the technology used in the bus ticketing system.
The Revanth Reddy government remains committed to improving the living standards of its employees and citizens. This recent boost in dearness allowance is just one of the many steps being taken towards this goal, following other initiatives like free bus services, a 500 kg gas cylinder scheme, and free electricity up to 200 units for households.
Overall, these measures reflect the Telangana government’s dedication to supporting its employees and promoting sustainable public transport solutions.
