Leader of the Opposition in Assam is pushing for online accessibility to Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin (PMAY-G) homes, aiming to streamline the application process for residents. This move seeks to enhance convenience and ensure that all eligible individuals can apply for housing assistance under the scheme.
Key Demands for Online Access to Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin (PMAY-G) in Assam
Debabrata Saikia, the Leader of the Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly, has appealed to the Union Government to provide online access for the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin (PMAY-G) houses in Assam. This would allow people in the state to apply through the official website or a mobile application.
Saikia communicated his request in a letter to the Union Minister for Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, expressing gratitude for the additional PMAY-G houses allocated to Assam’s needy population.
Call for Online Application Platform
Saikia highlighted that while Assam’s Chief Minister announced on March 19, 2025, that individuals could apply for PMAY-G houses online via a website or mobile app, this facility isn’t yet operational in Assam. He emphasized that the Ministry’s provision for online application should be accessible to the state’s residents.
Concerns Regarding Current Application Process
Saikia pointed out that the Panchayat & Rural Development (P&RD) department has involved women volunteers from the Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission (ASRLM) to gather and upload data for potential PMAY-G beneficiaries. He raised concerns that these volunteers might face challenges in reaching every household, potentially overlooking deserving applicants.
To address this, Saikia requested the launch of an application and website to ensure comprehensive coverage and ease of access of PMAY-G scheme.
