Civil Defence Training Scheme in Tripura to Train 2,880 Volunteers for Disaster Management

Tripura's Civil Defence Training Scheme will train 2,880 volunteers to enhance disaster response using technology and AI, strengthening state preparedness.

  • Tripura starts the Civil Defence Training Scheme to train 2,880 volunteers for disaster management.
  • Using AI and technology improves disaster readiness, with 26 automated weather stations set up.
  • New portals for equipment checks and land use aim to bring more clarity and efficiency.

Civil Defence Training Scheme in Tripura has started a major plan to train 2,880 volunteers, giving them the skills and knowledge needed for effective disaster management. This move fits well with the ongoing focus on using technology and AI in disaster response to reduce loss of life and damage during emergencies. Important developments include setting up automated weather stations, launching new digital portals, and upgrading infrastructure to support disaster readiness across the state.

Training 2,880 Volunteers Through the Civil Defence Training Scheme

Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha pointed out the importance of skilled volunteers in rescue work by officially starting the Civil Defence Training Scheme at the Secretariat. The program plans to build a dedicated group trained in disaster response methods, ready to act quickly during emergencies like cyclones and floods.

This program is part of a broader plan where thousands of volunteers will get training at the Technology Demonstration Unit in Hapania. These volunteers will be the first to respond in disaster-hit areas, boosting the state’s ability to manage crises well.

Using Technology and AI in Disaster Management

The Chief Minister recognized the role of technology and artificial intelligence in disaster management. AI tools are being used to improve weather forecasts, make rescue operations smoother, and improve communication during emergencies.

Tripura’s recent experiences with cyclones Sitrang (2022), Mocha (2023), Remal (2024), and floods (2018 and 2024) showed the need to upgrade technology. The state government is committed to ongoing improvements to reduce risks and better prepare communities.

New Infrastructure Supporting Disaster Preparedness

One key step is the setup of 26 automated weather stations and rain gauges across Tripura. These stations provide real-time data needed for accurate weather tracking and disaster prediction.

There are plans to set up a Doppler weather radar station in Belonia, which will strengthen early warning systems even more. The Disaster Management Equipment Verification Portal was also launched to keep updated records of equipment at district, sub-division, and TSR battalion levels. This portal helps make sure disaster management resources are ready and clear to all.

Additionally, the Change of Land Use (Diversion of Land) Portal was started to make land conversion approvals easier, encouraging a business-friendly environment while promoting sustainable development.

The Role of Volunteers and Skill Development in Emergency Response

Volunteers are the backbone of good disaster management, and improving their skills is very important. The Civil Defence Training Scheme focuses on complete training that covers rescue techniques, first aid, communication, and coordination skills.

This training helps volunteers respond well during emergencies, supporting government efforts and keeping communities safe. It also helps build a culture of disaster awareness among the public.

Government Support and Vision Behind the Scheme

This plan fits with national priorities and the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, who have supported Tripura’s development projects, including this scheme.

The Chief Minister thanked the leaders for choosing Tripura to launch these projects and said the State Disaster Management Plan (2024-25) offers a future-ready, technology-based approach to disaster resilience.
