Odisha Government Boosts Healthcare with AB PMJAY and GJAY

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced this crucial decision in the Assembly, highlighting collaborative efforts between state and central governments. Odisha will receive central assistance for implementation of AB PMJAY. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed with National Health Authority to ensure effective integration of AB PMJAY and GJAY in Odisha.

Key benefits and beneficiaries

  • Extensive Coverage: Approximately 3.46 crore individuals from about 1.03 crore families in Odisha will receive free medical treatment up to ₹5 lakh per annum under this integrated scheme.
  • Additional Benefits for Women: Women beneficiaries will receive an additional benefit of ₹5 lakh per year, further enhancing healthcare support for women.

Expanding Healthcare Reach with Ayushman Vayo-Vandana Yojana

Alongside AB PMJAY and GJAY, state government will also implement Ayushman Vayo-Vandana Yojana for all individuals above 70 years of age, regardless of their economic status. This initiative ensures that senior citizens receive free treatment up to ₹5 lakh per family annually, reinforcing state government’s commitment to elderly care. More than six lakh new beneficiaries from Odisha are expected to join the Ayushman Vayo-Vandana Yojana.

Access to an extensive network of hospitals

With implementation of these schemes, beneficiaries can access free treatment in 29,000 empaneled private and government hospitals across India. Earlier, such facilities were limited to only 900 hospitals. Free treatment for all citizens will also continue in all government hospitals of the state.

Continued Free Treatment in Government Hospitals

Beyond these schemes, the state government assures that free treatment for all citizens will continue in government hospitals across Odisha. This commitment ensures that all residents, regardless of their enrollment in AB PMJAY or GJAY, can access necessary medical services without financial burden.

Impact on Healthcare Infrastructure

  • Increased accessibility: The integration of AB PMJAY and GJAY significantly broadens access to quality healthcare services for Odisha residents, especially those from economically weaker sections.
  • Enhanced facilities: With access to 29,000 empanelled hospitals, beneficiaries have a wide range of options for seeking medical treatment, improving overall healthcare outcomes.

How Odisha is Transforming Healthcare Access

Odisha’s initiative to integrate AB PMJAY and GJAY, along with the extension of Ayushman Vayo-Vandana Yojana, marks a significant step towards providing accessible and affordable healthcare for all its residents. By increasing the number of empaneled hospitals and ensuring continued free treatment in government facilities, Odisha is setting a precedent for comprehensive healthcare delivery in India.

AB PMJAY-GJAY Integration is expected to bring quality healthcare to the doorsteps of every resident of Odisha, reinforcing state’s vision of ‘Health for All’.
