Under PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, families installing solar plants can benefit from substantial subsidies. For solar plants up to 2 KW, 60% of the cost is provided as a subsidy directly to the consumer’s account. For those wishing to install a 3 KW plant, an additional 40% subsidy is available for the extra 1 KW.

For example, installing a 3 KW plant costs approximately ₹1.45 lakh. Of this, ₹78,000 is covered by government subsidy, and the remaining ₹67,000 can be financed through affordable bank loans. Banks are allowed to charge only 0.5% above the repo rate.
