- Telangana to start a new dedicated Discom to manage free power schemes for farmers, households, and schools.
- Existing Discoms to improve their financial health and credit ratings through debt restructuring.
- Plans underway to install solar power plants on vacant government land to support sustainable energy.
Telangana government is ready to set up a new dedicated Discom to manage its Free Power Scheme that helps farmers, households using up to 200 units, and government schools. This scheme aims to change power distribution across the state while keeping current distributors, called Discoms, financially stable.
New Dedicated Discom for Telangana’s Free Power Schemes
Recently, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka met with energy officials to talk about starting a special power distribution company. This new Discom will only handle free power for farmers, certain households, and schools all over Telangana.
The plan is to bring all free power schemes under one system so the whole state works as one for government energy plans, making power distribution smoother and clearer.
Benefits for Farmers, Households, and Government Institutions
The dedicated Discom will offer many benefits. Farmers who rely on free electricity for irrigation and farming will get steady and focused power supply. Households using up to 200 units per month will keep getting free electricity easily, improving their daily lives.
Government schools and educational institutions will also benefit from reliable power, helping create better learning spaces. Also, by separating free power distribution, the current Discoms can do better since they can focus on other customers more effectively.
Steps to Improve Financial Stability of Existing Discoms
The Telangana government has asked officials to address the money problems faced by current Discoms. These power distributors now have high debt and 10% interest rates. They will get help through debt restructuring to lower their interest and overall debt.
This plan will improve the credit ratings of existing Discoms, making them more financially strong and better able to manage and upgrade power systems.
